Richmond offers James Herriot fans a real treat. The Richmondshire Museum houses the All Creatures Great and Small studio set from Pebble Mill studios where the BBC TV series was filmed. Exterior scenes were also filmed in and around Richmond.
Only a short distance from its iconic Norman castle and the largest cobbled marketplace in the country stands the exquisite Stable Cottage Vintage Holidays. Step back in time into this sympathetically restored 18th century cottage where the owner has applied her unique flair and green ethos principles using handmade, antique, reclaimed and salvaged furnishings and fixtures.
Relax in leather bound chairs in the book-lined library in front of the log/smokeless fuel burning stove or settle to watch a movie on the Flatscreen TV with Firestick and Amazon Echo. Enjoy good food prepared in the well-equipped vintage galley kitchen which has an electric oven, hob and extractor fan. Microwave, toaster and kettle, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Gas central heating (underfloor in living room, kitchen and dining area), electricity, bed linen, towels and super-fast Wi-Fi included. Initial fuel for multi-fuel burner included.
On the first floor, bedroom one has a kingsize bed and Flatscreen TV with Amazon Firestick and bedroom two has a double bed and Flatscreen TV with Amazon Firestick. The well-presented bathroom has a shower over the bath, and toilet.
Outdoors, is an enclosed courtyard garden with patio and garden furniture. Walk through the gate into a prettily planted ‘yarden’ complete with furniture and brolly. There’s an adjoining car park which is £15 per week or up to 10hrs for £4.50 (free 6pm-8am) (by coins or RingGo phone app). Or contact the owner with full car details and eta and departure so she can pay for your parking. Small dogs only allowed: There are some restrictions on some pet breeds, please call to confirm. If bringing dogs, please bring own dog bed and blankets. Please note: non-shedding hypoallergenic breed dogs only. No smoking.
It’s an historic experience to stay at Stable Cottage Vintage Holidays reminiscent of Skeldale House where James Herriot’s stories began.
