Skipton Castle

Skipton Castle is situated in Skipton, just on the southern outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, in the heart of Herriot Country. It is located only 15-minutes away from the historic market town of Grassington where the famous ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ was originally filmed. This castle is over a huge 900 years old and is renowned for being one of the most complete and best-preserved medieval castles in England, making it a must-see when visiting Herriot Country. 

At Skipton Castle visitors are able to explore the ins and outs of the delightful history it holds, such as it is withstanding a three-year siege during the Civil War. They can also view the Banqueting Hall, the Kitchen, the Bedchamber and the Privy if they wish. As well as doing a big climb from the bottom of the castle being the dungeon, all the way to the top storey of the Watch Tower. 

After a long day out exploring Skipton castle there is a picnic area on-site or the new tea-room to enjoy with snacks or a relaxing hot drink. A gift shop is available everyday if visitors wish to buy something to remind them of the history of this mesmerising castle. 

Skipton Castle hosts special events/ceremonies in their well-preserved ancient Banqueting Hall or the Granary which can be filled for up to 80 guests. All events can enjoy the stunning grounds and the fantastic building that offers the perfect picturesque setting for images. Along with that, guests can enjoy a Champagne and Canape reception before heading off to the specified venue for a wedding breakfast.
