Herriot Country is home to Masons of Yorkshire where Karl and Cathy Mason opened Yorkshire’s first gin distillery in 2013, pioneering the gin renaissance in the county.
Masons of Yorkshire was started with a simple mission; to create gin the way it should be, with more character, more flavour and uncompromising quality. Karl and Cathy set their minds on creating a different gin, not just a different label and successfully launched Masons flagship gin, The Original on World Gin Day 2013.
In the years that followed, Masons gin range was expanded by the innovative distillation of an iconic flavour of Yorkshire, the UK’s favourite, Yorkshire Tea. This flavour partnership went hand in hand when creating Masons most deliciously dry and refreshing gin, Masons Tea Edition, launched at the same time as delicately nuanced English Lavender. In 2017, the elegantly balanced Pear & Pink Peppercorn hit the shelves and most recently, Orange & Lime Leaf. As the Masons portfolio grew, the gins were recognised with over 90 award wins at the highest level worldwide.
At the Masons Distillery in the heart of Herriot Country, everyone can now discover the magic and marvelousness behind Yorkshire’s original gin. As well as a unique and immersive distillery tour, visitors can book on a cocktail evening where you get the opportunity to learn and try out the coveted art of mixology, along with tasting Masons range of award-winning gins.
The distillery is situated in Leeming Bar, only a couple of minutes’ drive from junction 51 of A1 and only 2 miles from the beautiful market town of Bedale. Following your visit to the Masons distillery you can travel 15 minutes from here to massive attraction of The World of James Herriot.
