Blissful Trails: Why the Yorkshire Dales in the Herriot Country is Your Self-care Sanctuary

Have you planned your trips for 2024 yet? Don’t worry if not, it’s a great time to start. We should be making time for ourselves, and it seems that lots of people agree. More of us are choosing self-care holidays, with 60% of holidaymakers making wellness activities part of their trips. Everyday life is so busy, sometimes we just need some time to rest and recover.


Why is the Herriot Country and the Yorkshire Dales worth your attention?

The Herriot Country is the original home of “All Creatures Great and Small”. This is where all of the stories of the vet James Herriot, are based.



The area offers visitors many attractions and some of the most beautiful scenery, especially in the Yorkshire Dales. It makes a perfect spot for a self-care break. Being outside for just two hours per day is linked to improved health and wellbeing.

We’re not talking about a leisure centre pool; Wild Swimming is popular in the area. It’s a great workout, and the cool water is known for releasing endorphins. If you’re up for trying something new or you’re a regular outdoor swimmer, we highly recommend this as a self-care activity.




Whenever self-care means to you, the Yorkshire Dales is a great place to practice it. Take in the surroundings of the trails. You can take them on foot, bike or on horseback. For those more adventurous, try wild swimming.


The Herriot country covers some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK. The Yorkshire Dales is known for its scenery. With tumbling streams, drystone walls, rich farmland and so much more. It’s a fantastic place to relax and unwind on your 2024 self-care break.
