Birdforth Hall Cottages

Birdforth Hall Cottages is a Herriot Country accommodation gem that sits in the lee of the White Horse of Kilburn on the A19 only ten minutes drive from the World of James Herriot in Thirsk and a little over half an hour’s drive north from the City of York.

Sue, Paul and daughter Abi are passionate about rural life, probably sharing many of their values with James Herriot (Alf Wight) in their country home and business in North Yorkshire’s Herriot Country. With their variety family of animals including Rhubarb and Revel the horses, Bella the pig, Hattie, Nell and Senna the family dogs plus cattle in the fields and the chickens, geese and ducks, guests are likely to experience the kind of place that James Herriot visited.

Tending to the farm animals is one part of the work but nowadays, attending to every need of guests visiting Birdforth Hall is what makes it so special. The attention to detail that’s needed to run a farm is emulated in the way that Sue, Paul and Abi provide for their guests.

Each cottage has it’s unique layout and atmosphere and all have been developed to provide high-quality facilities and comfort. With double rooms, twin rooms and family rooms available there’s plenty of flexibility for every combination of visitor from couples to families and friendship groups.

The Granary sleeps up to nine guests in four bedrooms and with three bathrooms. This is set apart from the main complex and pets are welcome by prior arrangement.

The Stables accommodates up to 12 people in four bedrooms and with three bathrooms all on one level. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement.

The Mill House is the most historic cottage dating back to 1765, with exposed beams in amazing vaulted ceilings and sleeps up to 12 guests in five bedrooms and with three bathrooms.

Adjoining is the Byre which is south-facing to the courtyard and has a vaulted ceiling in the lounge along with log-burner and sleeps 10 people in four ensuite bedrooms. Pets are not allowed in the Mill House or the Byre. All have shared use of the leisure club and heated indoor swimming pool, sauna, hot tub, BBQ garden and the attractive grounds.

Birdforth Hall Cottages are steeped in history, set in luxurious surroundings and an deal base from which to explore Herriot Country.
