Thirsk Hall is situated in Thirsk, in the heart of Herriot Country. Thirsk Hall has a lot of history behind its sole business that has been the Bell’s family for almost 300 years now. The Hall is a three-storey town house that stands tall near St Mary’s Church. It is a grade II* listed property built in the 1700s and is currently housed to the Owners, Daisy & Bill.
The Hall is made up of 20 acres of gardens, walled paddocks and a parkland which you wouldn’t see from just the front of the house. It contains a sculpture garden that was launched back in 2021 which they are happy to share to the visitors wanting to experience a quiet but delightful area. There is now an Herb Garden that was developed and completed in 2021 and will be open for visitors to view in May 2022.
There is a grade II* listed Carr of York Georgian House two-bedroom flat within the Hall. This is the perfect spot to have a staycation as it sleeps up to 4 guests, which also comes with full access to the Sculpture Garden that can be seen from the flat itself. Guests will also get the privilege of having access to the Herb and Kitchen Gardens upon re-opening, that is recommended to visitors to handpick their own seasonal vegetables and herbs.
Thirsk Hall itself is located only a minutes’ walk from the market town making it easily accessible to visit the local shops/restaurants as well as the remarkable attractions that this town brings. The Hall is just a few doors down from the magnificent museum of ‘The World of James Herriot’ if visitors to the house were after a trip out to learn more about the famous Vet that once lived in Thirsk.
Thirsk Hall is situated next to St. Mary’s Church on Kirkgate in Thirsk. From the centre of town you need to turn off the main square, up the street called Kirkgate (Bianco’s is on the corner) and continue straight up the road until you see the church; the house is immediately on the left before you get to the church. Note, you will go past the Zillah Bell Gallery on your left hand side.
