Longdale Cottage Marsett near Hawes

Believed to be a former gamekeeper’s cottage, Longdale Cottage is situated in Raydale near Hawes. It was part of  the shooting estate of William Grenfell 1st Baron Desborough and is in a beautiful, secluded, unspoilt part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Raydale just off to the side of the more well-known Wensleydale.

With fly and course fishing nearby, the cottage is surrounded by traditional farming country ringed by high fells. Nearby Hawes is just six miles away and has a range of local shops, takeaways and restaurants, it is a bustling market town and also has the famous Wensleydale Creamery.

The dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen nearby and two and half miles away is Semerwater, with its beach for swimming, fishing and canoeing. Close by the pretty villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg, with its pub which was used as the local and house used as Skeldale House in the James Herriot BBC TV series All Creatures Great and Small. Raydale is a haven for wildlife, hares and deer are often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including grouse, partridge, curlew and plovers.
