Pry House Farm has been thoughtfully restored to provide every modern-day comfort, is only a short half-mile from the source of the river Swale and is surrounded by pasture and meadow.

Pry House Shepherd’s Hut may be small but is perfect for couple or single explorers and has fabulous panoramic views all around and is ideal for dark sky gazing.

Hillcrest Cottage is in peaceful village setting at Low Row, a five-minute walk to a nearby gastro pub and has stunning views of the dry-stone walled meadows and high fell in the distance. A great little place for an escape.

The couple are passionate about providing their guests with a warm Herriot Country welcome and to share their knowledge of the area, their sheep farming expertise, all of the interesting places nearby, the beautiful scenery, the wildlife and opportunities to experience dark skies in this wonderful part of the Yorkshire Dales. Easily viewed is the Milky Way, thousands of stars, constellations and planets, shooting stars and you can watch the moon rise over the horizon, a truly wonderful experience.

Alf Wight OBE (James Herriot) visited farms and villages just like these on his rounds and nearby are many of the locations where the BBC TV series was filmed. Chris and Glenda are staunch fans of All Creatures Great and Small and can point you to these iconic locations including the famous ‘water splash’ scene that appeared in every opening sequence of the BBC series. Nearby Askrigg doubled as fictional ‘Darrowby’ and where Skeldale House, the BBC replica of the original surgery and home was filmed. Remember too, to visit Thirsk and the World of James Herriot the original home and surgery where it all began and where Alf Wight wrote his tales of his life as a country vet in North Yorkshire now known world-wide as Herriot Country.
